Spanish horror movie: the crisis of the genre or the loss of identity?

St. Petersburg State University of Film and Television invited one of Spain's leading film and music critic Eduardo Guillot to speak to the students. Workshop called "Modern Spanish horror" and was dedicated to the establishment of this important genre of cinema in Spain.

Eduardo Guillot is the author of several books on the theory and history of genre, and his articles are published by the largest publishing houses of Spain. He also works as curator of academic programs at the University of Valencia, being the organizer of international scientific conferences and seminars.

Creative meeting was held at the Department of Directing of the Faculty of Screen Arts and lasted more than two hours, during which the Spanish cultural figure described the stages of development and the current state of the Spanish horror film. Film critic told about personal contacts with various Spanish directors and stages of development of Spanish cinema, showing bright scenes from the films, which were discussed. In addition to theoretical information, Mr. Guillot disclosed several tricks of creating a quality film in the horror genre. The conversation touched upon the theme of identity of Spanish cinema, the characteristics of professional style of certain directors, as well as the permitted subjects in a movie.
