About the translation of the name of Inner Mongolia Normal University, IMNU into Russian
There is the word Normal In the English name of the University, which means "standardized", "meeting the requirements". Today, this term is used in the names of higher educational institutions of the People's Republic of China, with which we have been linked by the bonds of long-standing fruitful cooperation: Beijing Normal University, East China Normal University, Hainan Normal University. Traditionally, Normal, based on its hieroglyphic notation, it is customary to translate “pedagogical” in the names of universities. However, concerning to the situation of modern China, “pedagogical” is not its exact meaning.
In Europe, this term was first introduced at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, when the widely known today École normale supérieure (ENS Paris) and the Higher Normal School (one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in France) were founded and began their activities in France. She was not focused on the training of exclusively teaching staff; she studied many natural and human sciences, including pedagogy. Normal had its direct meaning: "meeting certain requirements." Subsequently, in many ways, it became associated with pedagogy. Further, Normal began to be included in the names of educational institutions in other countries of the world.
At the turn of the XIX and XX centuries. This term also found its place in China when the process of Europeanization of the educational system and its adaptation to Western standards began to take place in the country. The term Normal was also included in the names of educational institutions specializing in pedagogy and teacher training. This lasted for several decades and became strongly associated with the value of "pedagogical".
Today, the “pedagogical” Normal is a tribute to a historical tradition highly revered in China. It is retained in the names of more than 50 higher educational institutions of the PRC, which already have university status and are engaged in the training of specialists of a wide profile, and not just teachers. This is seen from the names of faculties and research institutes of universities. So, in the list of structures of the University of Inner Mongolia, you can see the Higher School of Politics and Law, the Institute of Humanities, Foreign Languages, the Institute of the Media and many others, and among the specialities: radio directing, animation, television art, journalism and others.
