The film "Complex Subject" became the nominee of the 72nd Festival de Cannes

Film of a student of St. Petersburg State University of Film and Television is shortlisted at one of the most prestigious international festivals. The film will be shown as a part of the special program "Cinéfondation".

The director of the film is Olesya Yakovleva (Faculty of Screen Arts, directing of feature films, workshop of Viktor Vasilyev), the producer is Danila Yakovlev (Faculty of Management and Media Communications). Students of A.Y. Aleksakhina participated in the shooting of the film: Elizaveta Shakira and Slava Saveliev, as well as SHORTPARTS vocalist Nikolai Komyagin. 

“My alma mater, first of all, is the workshop of Victor Evgenievich Vasiliev," Olesya noted. "Everything that I know about cinema, I know thanks to him and his sometimes radical methods and the desire to embrace the immense. We watch a lot of short films in the lessons. Thanks to the master for the trust, he says, the main thing for me is not to interfere with my work. Although, Viktor Evgenievich is always up to date with my current work. He can always give me advice without pushing his interests. I think I am very lucky with the master".

The master, Victor Evgenievich Vasilyev, congratulated Olesya Yakovleva on the nomination and noted that he is very proud of all his students:

"For me, it wasn’t a surprise that Olesya’s film was nominated. Her work has already been noted at the "Human Cinema" Festival, where Olesya received a prize for the film "Left March". "Complex Subject" is a deep and incredible work, created through the joint hard work of our students. I am infinitely proud for my students, they create such amazing things in our university, their works resonate with the hearts of not only the professional cinema community but also of an ordinary viewer! I would like to thank the Rector of the University Alexander Dmitrievich Evmenov for creating an amazing creative atmosphere in the university. Thanks to this, it is possible to make films of high international standards in terms of quality".

The short film program "Cinéfondation" is designed to find and support talented authors. This year, 17 films from around the world, selected from 2,000 applications, will take part in the competition. The President of the jury of this program, Claire Denis, is a film director and screenwriter, as well as a bright representative of contemporary author cinema in France. The jury will determine three winners of the competition on May 23. The first prize is €15,000, the second prize is €11,250 and the third prize is €7,500. The first full-length film of the winner of the first prize of the program "Cinéfondation" will be shown at the Festival de Cannes.
